Peer into Barrack Hebrew Academy's classrooms and you'll see something inspiring. A discussion of the Book of Job evolves into a gripping dialogue about the nature of good and evil. A teacher pauses from her geometry lesson to make sure a student understands the unique qualities of a tetrahedron. A review of the career of Pericles serves as a vehicle for students to develop their own rhetorical skills.

Stroll past Barrack Hebrew Academy on a weekday evening and you'll notice something unusual. The lights are on. Inside, students are rehearsing plays, discussing the hottest software, honing their debating skills, practicing a choral presentation, editing the student literary magazine or perhaps just shooting hoops after basketball practice.

Barrack Student Video

Members of the Class of 2008, with video cameras in hand, interviewed fellow students. They posed the questions: Who are we? and Why Barrack? Fellow students shared their views about academics; the celebration of Jewish life and learning in all its rich diversity; their connections to the community, to Israel, and to the wider world; their lasting relationships with faculty and friends; and the self-confidence that grows from "knowing who you are." To meet our Barrack students and discover their answers to Why Barrack? and why, in the words of one senior, "When I have children, I want to send them here." click her for the video.
