Physical Education in the Middle School
MIDDLE SCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION SYLLABUS
Class Expectations:
All students are required to wear a Barrack Hebrew Academy shirt, athletic sneakers, and athletic shorts (knee length) or sweatpants(no pockets). Students are required to actively participate in all physical education activities, unless a doctor’s note is provided. A student who is excused for more than 2 class periods will be required to write a paper on fitness or athletics. Behaviorally, good sportsmanship is encouraged and should be demonstrated in class.
Course objectives:
Middle school students will be introduced to individual and team sports. In 6th and 7th grade, the focus will be on fundamentals and rules. In 8th grade, fundamentals and rules will be reviewed, and game strategies will be introduced.
Students will have three or four lessons on each of the following units:
Soccer
Football
Field Hockey
Basketball
Volleyball
Floor Hockey
Badminton
Tennis
Softball
Lacrosse
Personal Fitness
Other activities throughout the year will be:
Physical Fitness testing, Ultimate Frisbee, Pickle Ball, Mat Ball, Bombardment
