Arabic Exploratory
Salam, Ahlan, Wasaahlan!
This course will introduce the student to basic expressions used when greeting people and engaging in brief conversations. Students will also learn how to order in a restaurant, get tickets, and speak about sports, movies and transportation. Songs from popular artists about peace, family and culture will be presented. Finally, students will learn the script for short, usable sentences and they will be taught to read selected practical sentences in Arabic.
Trimester 3
May 24 - June 16
We will study the numbers in Arabic as well as all of the key words needed to tell time. We will continue to practice the writing of the Arabic alphabet. Two Arabic songs will be taught every week concerning love, peace and human relations. In unit 4 of the book we will study the geography of the Middle East and the vocabulary attached to various maps of various Arab countries. Names of important cities in the Middle East and major historical events will also be covered. As usual, new proverbs will be taught to enlarge the vocabulary of the student and to further appreciate the richness of the culture of the Arab peoples.
We will also learn new proverbs in Arabic mentioned in the text and their cultural connotation in the Arab world.
The final test will be that students will be asked to speak in Arabic for 2 minutes and to write the alphabet in this language.
Review and a summary of the course will be done at the end of the trimester.
