Jewish Studies/ Tanach 7B- Mrs. Linietsky
Week of 12/1 -12/5-
Tanach- We are studying chapter 6 Yehoshua. Students are tackling the concepts of physical versus spiritual war. We are also utilizing the text in order to find examples of psychological warfare.
Parashat Hashavua- in preperation for the oneg shabbat we are working in groups creating a creative presentation of parashat vayaytzey, which will include skits and games.
Week of 12/8-12/12
We completed Chapter 6 of sefer Yehoshua.In addition we studied Mishna 5 in the Ben Sorer U Moreh unit.This Mishna allowed us to review the four previous Mishnayot.
Homework due Thursday 12/11- Read Parashat Vayishlach in order to be prepared for group activities in class. (pages 67-77) in the JPS Tanach.

1. Spend 15 minutes completing as much as you can of the Parsha questions.
2. Fill out a 3x5 card with the following:
a. Your full name in Hebrew and in English
b. your birthday and year of birth. ( I will then give you your Hebrew Birthday.)
c.Date of your Bar/Bat Mitsvah
d. Your Torah Portion
e. Your Haftorah Portion

Students need to get their Pasuk approved by me by 12/23/08. In addition students need to also let me know what they will choose for their Tzedakah Project by 12/23/08.
Welcome to the Third Quarter
Week of February 16th:
We are going to be completing the Bar/Bat Mitzvah unit.
In Tanach we will review Yehoshua chapter 8 and study chapter nine. The week of February 23rd we are going to do our best to survey the remainder of sefer Yehoshua, so that we may begin sefer Shoftim in March. We will also begin a mini unit on Purim which will include some text study of the beginning chapters of Megillat Esther.

Week of 2/23:
Homework due 2/25- complete the worksheet on Yehoshua Chapter 9. Be prepared fpr a possible pop quiz.
Week of 3/16
We had a Purim quiz on Monday.Last week we concluded our study of Yehoshua. We will now begin sefer Shoftim.
During this week we began a new unit in JS. We are studying the Mitzvah of Kibbud Av Ve Em , using the Shulchan Aruch as our text. On Friday 3/20 we will work in pairs on the second seif of the unit. On Thursday 3/19 we will celebrate Jacob Reich's becoming a Bar Mitzvah in the dining commons after Tefillot. We will then go on our chesed trip.See you Thursday on the trip and Friday in class.
Homework due on 3/24- read the first two chapters of Shoftim, and complete the handout on the cycle of the Shoftim. Use the powerpoint packet to help you understand the cycle.
There will be a quiz on Thursday 3/26 on the first four sefeim in the kibbud Av V Em Unit.

Quiz tomorrow 4/22 on the Yom Hashoah stories that we worked on in Jigsaw groups.
Week of 4/27
Quiz 4/28 on chapters six and seven of Shoftim. In addition, homework due 4/28; write a summary of Shoftim chapter 8- pesukim 28-35. This will bring closure to the final years of Gidon's reign as a Judge.
Homework due Friday 5/15- finish reading Chapter 11 of Shoftim, and complete the handout. Be prepared to participate in class discussion about Yiftach. Have a great time on Teva. Let me know how you celebrate Lag Ba Omer. Shabbat Shalom.
Remember to bring your blue Yehoshua/Shoftim book back to class, if you havn't done so already.
Class Challenge: We will have an icecream party at the end of the year if at least 15/17 students hand in every homework assignment on time from now until the end of the year.
Students who did not complete the Biblical sources on Shavuot must hand it in tomorrow 5/19.
Ten Commandment or Conversion Essay is due on Monday June 8th. Oral presentations will be on June 9th and there will be an open note quiz on June 10th (about the presentations)

1. Look up the source in Breishit which describes the brit between Avraham and the king of the Philistines. Write a summary of the pesukim.
2. Read Shoftim chapter 14 and answer the questions.
Reminder: Essay due on Monday 6/8. Bring in two copies of your paper.
On Monday 6/8 we will prepare for Tuesday's 6/8 oral presentations.We will also complete Chapter 16 of Shoftim.
