Through the use of texts, supplementary readings and current media, this course provides instruction in the constitutional underpinnings of government, political beliefs and behaviors, political parties, interest groups, elections and the influence of mass media on politics.  Half of this course teaches the institutions of our national government and the civil rights and liberties shared by American citizens.  This course provides students with practice in analyzing and interpreting data and other information relevant to U.S. government., public policy and politics. Prerequisites for this course include an A- or better in 6 trimesters of history and the approval of the department chair.

    Assessments: Students are graded on class participation and this course also requires students to answer, on a frequent basis, analytical and free- response questions in preparation for the AP exam.
