9th Grade History
We all live with the objective of being happy; our lives are all different and yet the same.
Anne Frank
Theme: This course will explore the diversity of our 21st century world, both the commonality and the conflicts that shape modern life. We examine the ancient religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism and Confucianism with the goal of understanding the roots of non-Western world views. Since China and India are becoming the economic powerhouses of our world today, we study their ancient history, the impact of colonialism on their cultures, and their development as independent, dynamic nations. The students participate in a globalization project to cultivate an understanding of the developing world today. Finally, we explore the causes and effects of the Holocaust as a prototype of genocide in the 20th century.
